This pathway explores the claims management company (CMC) groups and activities that the FCA authorises and regulates and the rules and guidance the FCAs Claims Management: Conduct of Business Sourcebook (CMCOB) requires CMCs to adhere to.

Learning Outcomes

When you've completed all of the activities in this pathway, you should be able to:

- describe the claims management company groups and activities that the FCA authorises and regulates and the broad standards that the FCA sets out.

- describe the rules and guidance CMCOB provides in these four areas: i) Conduct of business ii) generating, obtaining and passing on leads iii) recording and retention of telephone calls and electronic communications iv) financial promotions.

- explain the requirements on CMCs so customers can make informed decisions at first contact with CMCs.

- explain the requirements on CMC once a customer has entered into an agreement with them and the claim is progressing.
